Black women, we have been resting.
We’ve been boycotting Target and hair products. We’ve been line dancing and twirling with Beyoncé. We’ve been watering our plants, journaling, stretching under weighted blankets, and getting scalp massages. We’ve been minding our business, preserving our peace, and giving ourselves the grace we’ve always deserved.
Rest was — and still is — revolutionary.
It was resistance. It was protection. It was healing.
But now, we find ourselves in the final quarter of 2025, standing at the threshold of what I’ve named The Great Lock-In (refer to the previous blog for context).
So, I must ask:
Are we still resting, or is it time to re-engage?
Are we still exhausted and heartbroken, or are we ready to reclaim what’s ours?
🌀 The Time for Rest Was Sacred — But Seasons Change
Rest isn’t something we need to abandon; it’s something we now need to integrate.
The rest wasn’t just a break — it was preparation. We’ve spent years tending to our wounds, rediscovering our joy, and choosing softness. But what comes after restoration?
Action.
We are entering a critical period — one that requires clarity, strategy, and community. It’s not about hustle culture or overextending ourselves again. It’s about alignment. It’s about intention. It’s about doing the work that creates long-term sustainability and power — for us, by us.
🔐 What Does “Locking In” Actually Mean?
“Locking in” doesn’t mean abandoning joy, rest, or softness. It means we channel our energy into the things that matter most:
-
Educating ourselves about what’s coming — politically, socially, economically.
-
Creating infrastructure within our communities that supports our well-being.
-
Pooling our resources — financial, intellectual, and spiritual — so we can build systems that don’t exploit us.
-
Mentoring younger generations, passing down wisdom, and ensuring a lasting legacy.
This isn’t about individual glow-ups.
This is about collective ascension.
📊 92% Isn’t 100% — But It’s a Signal
Some of you already know what “92%” means.
For those who don’t — it’s a cultural marker, a pulse check, a shift. (More on that in a future post.) But here’s what I’ll say now:
If you’ve been feeling that subtle urgency lately…
That itch to do something, build something, be part of something —
That’s not a coincidence.
That’s alignment.
That’s awakening.
That’s the call to lock in.
🚫 Let’s Not Wait for a Crisis to Mobilize
We’ve seen what happens when we wait until things fall apart to take action.
Black women are always called on to save democracy, lead movements, show up, speak out, organize, and rebuild. But what if we got ahead of the curve this time?
What if we prepared with foresight instead of reacting from burnout?
-
Let’s move while we’re rested — not depleted.
-
Let’s build while we’re clear-headed — not panicked.
-
Let’s lead from a place of power — not pressure.
✊🏾 This Is Our Moment
So yes — continue to honor the rest.
Celebrate the joy.
Keep your plants watered and your playlists spinning.
But also:
-
Start the group chats.
-
Schedule the community meetings.
-
Secure the resources.
-
Teach the babies.
-
Get involved. Stay aware. Lock in.
Because the future is not just coming —
It’s already knocking.
And we need all of us, awake and aligned, to answer the door.
🧠 Final Takeaway
The season of rest prepared us.
The season of building is calling us.
Let’s lock in — together.
