Motivation Monday: Women Mentoring Women

Along my journey, I’ve been blessed to cross paths with incredible women who poured into me with advice, encouragement, or simply a listening ear. Sometimes it was a few powerful words that shifted my perspective, and other times it was watching them navigate challenges that showed me I wasn’t alone. Those moments of mentorship — whether intentional or unexpected — have shaped me more than I realized at the time.

Now that I’m well into my 40s and making a huge career pivot, I’ll be honest: I catch myself second-guessing. Starting fresh in a new lane isn’t easy. That’s when I naturally leaned on my circle of women friends who are walking a similar path. Their insights, their “I’ve been there” stories, and even their prayers keep me motivated.

But here’s the question I’ve been sitting with: if the person you consider a mentor isn’t sure about their own career path, are they the right pick?

It made me rethink what mentorship really looks like. Maybe it’s not always about someone having it all figured out. Maybe mentorship can also come from those in the trenches with you — women who are figuring it out in real time, side by side. And at the same time, I’ve learned the importance of seeking guidance from women who are a few steps ahead, who can light the way with wisdom and perspective I can’t yet see.

What I know for sure is this: when women mentor women, something powerful happens. We build each other up, even in uncertainty. We share lessons, opportunities, and motivation that we can’t always pull from ourselves on the hard days.

This Motivation Monday, I encourage you (and myself) to do two things:

  1. Reach out to a woman you admire and ask for her insight.

  2. Be that woman for someone else.

Because mentorship isn’t about perfection — it’s about connection. And when women lift up women, we don’t just motivate each other for a moment. We create a movement.
