Black Women Spotlight: Shawandra Cashmere – A Woman of Strength, Passion, and Purpose

Some people lead with their careers, others with their passions, and a rare few manage to weave both into a life full of purpose life full of purpose. Shawandra Cashmere—affectionately known as Shawn—is one of those rare few. A mother of three, grandmother of one, healthcare professional, entrepreneur, and home chef, she has built a life rooted in excellence, care, and creativity.

Born and raised in Jeanerette, Louisiana, Shawandra now calls Houston, Texas, home. Her journey has been shaped by faith, family, and an unwavering commitment to lifelong learning. She earned her degree in Healthcare Management from the University of Houston, but it was an experience—more than anything—that shaped her into the leader she is today. As a Program Director of Medical Specialties, Shawandra has mastered her field so well that she now coaches and teaches others to do the same. This ability to uplift others is one of her proudest accomplishments.

A Life Full of Passion

Beyond her professional success, Shawandra embraces her creative side. She is the proud owner of Wax Fairy, a candle-making business, where she pours her love and artistry into every creation. Whether it’s crafting the perfect scent or cooking a delicious meal as a home chef, Shawandra finds joy in creating experiences that bring comfort and warmth to others.

Her passion doesn’t stop there. She is deeply committed to raising awareness for Sickle Cell Anemia, a cause close to her heart. She hopes to provide families with the knowledge and resources they need to navigate the illness, ensuring that no one has to go through it alone.

Legacy, Growth, and Inspiration

When asked about her future, Shawandra dreams of creating passive income so she can retire early and travel more, indulging in her love for exploring new cultures and histories. But no matter where she goes, her legacy will always be one of education, empowerment, and resilience.

Her advice to other Black women chasing their dreams? “Always be a student. Always encourage yourself—sometimes you have to be your own cheerleader.” She knows firsthand that success isn’t just about skill—it’s about mindset, perseverance, and the willingness to keep going even when no one else is clapping.

For Shawandra, being a Black woman in healthcare is about more than just holding a title. It’s about access to knowledge, using that knowledge to advocate for her community, and making sure that other women are seen, heard, and empowered. She credits her strength and inspiration to her mother, a woman who instilled in her the values of hard work, resilience, and love.
